Great Awesome! So So Good Great
Bottlescrew's is another long-time establishment I frequent. I drank many world - class beers for the first time at this pub. It's been moving down the list lately owing to a few things. The beer selection, while still huge, has decreased in Quality. At one time, it would have been "Awesome", now only "Great". In general the really premium beers have been shoved off the list to be replaced yet another ho-hum Pils or Lager. I guess people in Calgary are not willing to pay $10+/bottle for a really good beer. The food has done a shift as well. At one time, I would have rated it as having some unique Coyboy style pub grub such as beans in a cup. With many changes in the last few years, it's become much more standard, although their Bison Pepperoni Pizza is top notch, if you can get it. Quality is variable and service is variable too these days. One other thing of note if you havn't been there in a while - Buzzard's Breath, the house brew, is no longer brewed for them by Big Rock - now done by Wild Rose. NOT the same beer as before, it's good, but don't expect what you had before.

I really wish they'd get it together and get back to what made them great - different beers you can't get anywhere else and Coyboy cuisine. I miss that.

Overall, still worth hitting as a vistor to this city, as a local, it's now one of many rather than head and shoulders above the competition in the Calgary pub scene.

Enjoyed Tall Timber Ale from Revelstoke B.C. Believe it is the best beer I have ever drunk in Canada. Thanks to Allyson, staff member, who introduced me to it!

I stopped at Bottlescrew Bill’s for lunch during a recent visit to Calgary. The daily special was the beef dip sandwich, which turned out to be pretty decent along with a side of tasty fries. I enjoyed a pint of the flavorful Wild Rose Brown Ale and a pint of the house beer, Buzzard’s Breath Ale, brewed by Calgary’s Big Rock Brewery, and only available here and the restaurant next door. The Buzzard’s Breath Ale was a very tasty amber ale, with a good balance of malt and hop flavors and a smooth, creamy head. In addition to the draft choices, this pub offers a fairly large bottle selection, including craft beers from Alberta, BC, and a couple of the eastern provinces as well.

A great deal of the beer at Bottlescrews is just bottled but that is also where you'll find the most interesting selection. The tap is extensive, but fairly conservative. It's really hard to find a good pale ale on tap in this city.

Great Awesome! Great Awesome! Awesome!
Great place to go if you're sick of bars offering Bud and Coors, and calling that an "exstensive assortment of beers." And try the 80 Beers Around The World Club - no better way to sample beer from everywhere, and collect some great rewards along the way!
